Ladies’ Skin Care: More Than Just Wrinkles

It’s Women’s Health Week and one of the biggest concerns many women has is how their skin will change as they get older. Wrinkle creams and firming serum are just a few of the popular skin care products women buy, but there’s more to taking care of your skin than tightening smile lines. Are you doing everything you can do keep your skin healthy? Our checklist can help. Skip Smoking Smoking can have a huge impact on your skin – one side effect that many people forget about. By decreasing blood flow, oxygen and nutrients your skin needs don’t get there and your skin begins to look aged. It also damages collagen, making skin loose and allowing wrinkles to form much more easily. Lather on the SPF Whether it’s 90 degrees and sunny or 40 degrees and cloudy, it’s important to wear sunscreen every day. Your body is exposed to UV rays no matter what, and the more exposure your skin receives, the more it visibly ages. Put a broad-spectrum sunscreen that’s at least SPF 30 each day and don’t forget to reapply. Baby Your Skin Your skin is delicate – make sure you treat it that way. Don’t use tons of different products at the same time. Keep your makeup brushes clean and wash your face each night before bed to remove dirt and makeup. Find a moisturizer that is gentle enough for your face and doesn’t come with a heavy scent. Use it in the morning, evening, and right after you get out of the shower. Reduce Stress We’ve all been there – stress can make us breakout. But that’s not the only skin problem that stress can cause. By reducing your stress levels and finding healthy ways to cope, you’ll see a dramatic difference in the health of your skin. Eat Well and Stay Hydrated Drinking eight glasses of water each day is good for your overall health, but it also keeps your skin hydrated and can help prevent breakouts. Adjusting your diet can also make a difference. Make sure it includes fruits, veggies, lean proteins, and whole grains while cutting out unhealthy fats and processed carbohydrates to increase your chances of radiant skin.
