Newsweek names Mississippi Baptist Medical Center a Best-In-State Hospital

JACKSON, Miss., Nov. 14, 2023 – Newsweek and Statista Inc., a statistics portal and industry-ranking provider, named Mississippi Baptist Medical Center one of Mississippi’s Best-In-State Hospitals.

This ranking identifies the top hospitals at the state level based on several factors, including outcomes, safety and staff responsiveness. Hospitals from every U.S. state were eligible for the ranking and included in the nationwide survey. The 25 states with the most hospitals, according to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, were surveyed individually. The remaining states were grouped into the Northeast, Midwest, West and South regions.

“It’s an honor to be named as one of Mississippi’s best hospitals,” said Bobbie Ware, CEO and administrator of Mississippi Baptist Medical Center. “We’re grateful to our team for their hard work and congratulate them on this recognition.”

Mississippi Baptist Medical Center earned a score of 78.58% out of 100 and is one of seven hospitals in Mississippi recognized by Newsweek. Four data sources were used for the evaluation:

·         A nationwide online survey taken by more than 10,000 medical professionals who were asked to recommend the best hospitals based on their expertise

·         Medicaid and Medicare data available for mortality, safety, readmission, experience and timely and effective care

·         Patient experience, including the cleanliness and quietness of hospitals, communication of nurses/doctors and staff responsiveness, care transition, communication about medicine and discharge information

·         Patient-reported outcome measures implementation survey

In 2023, U.S. News & World Report named Mississippi Baptist Medical Center the No. 1 hospital in Mississippi for the fifth year in a row. The hospital was also recognized with the Platinum Performance Achievement Award by the American College of Cardiology for its treatment of heart attack patients. Mississippi Baptist Health Systems signed a shared mission agreement with Baptist Memorial Health Care in May 2017, making Baptist Memorial one of Mississippi’s largest employers and the largest health care system in the state. Baptist Memorial is headquartered in Memphis, Tennessee, and is one of the largest not-for-profit health care providers in the Mid-South with hospitals in Arkansas, Tennessee and Mississippi.
