Felicia Cobbs, assistant professor of nursing and alumna at Baptist Health Sciences University, is celebrating the five-year anniversary of her Better Woman Better Wife Scholarship Program by awarding five nursing students a $1,000-scholarship each.

The Better Woman Better Wife is a nonprofit that Cobbs founded in 2018 to support nursing education and promote the future of nursing professionals by assisting students facing financial hardships. Cobbs graduated high school as a single mother at 17 years old and could not afford to pursue higher education. With the support of an organization giving grants to women in need, she was able to go to college in her mid-30s. This grant program inspired her to create her own nonprofit. Cobbs currently holds a Doctor of Nursing Practice.

“I have walked in the same shoes as these students,” said Felicia Cobbs, assistant professor at Baptist Health Sciences University. “In a time where nursing is facing a shortage and students are struggling to afford school, I’m honored to fill in the gap and pass on the blessing I received to other Baptist Health Sciences University students.”

Since starting the scholarship program, Cobbs has awarded $12,000 of scholarships to nursing students, most of which attend Baptist Health Sciences University. She funds the scholarships through individual donations and three grants.
