Baptist Union County offers new robotic surgical technology to enhance patient care

Baptist Memorial Hospital-Union County has acquired a new robotic surgical system that will allow physicians to perform less invasive and more advanced procedures and surgeries.

The da Vinci Xi Surgical System can be used across a spectrum of gynecologic, urological, thoracic, cardiac and general surgical procedures, including hysterectomies, hernia repairs, colon/rectal resections, lobectomies and prostatectomies. The robotic system enables efficient access throughout the abdomen or chest and features wristed instruments, 3D-HD visualization, intuitive motion and an ergonomic design. The 3D-HD vision system allows a magnified view while surgeons control the robotic system with smaller, more precise movements of tiny instruments inside a patient’s body.

“We’re excited to offer robotic surgical technology at Baptist Union County,” said Ann Bishop, CEO and administrator at Baptist Union County. “This new system is the standard of care and will enhance precision, visualization and physician control during surgeries, which will, ultimately, result in faster recoveries and better outcomes for patients.”

Surgeons performed the first robotic surgery at Baptist Union County on Oct. [day] with positive results. Robotic surgeries have been shown to offer many advantages, including less pain and blood loss, decreased risks of complications/infections, reduced length of stay and faster recoveries for patients.
